On 8th January 1941, the Air Ministry approved the formation of a new Polish fighter squadron at RAF Acklington, just north of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Most of the pilots were from the Polish city of Deblin, a famous nursery for Polish airmen, and 315 squadron became known as "Deblinski".
