Accounting in the Business Environment Book

This text aims to provide a straightforward exposition of what accounting is, what it is attempting to measure, whether it is currently succeeding, and how it can be applied. It covers the need of a first-year course in both financial and management accounting. The approach taken is conceptual, and attempts to bridge the gap between students' awareness of the real world of financial scandals and the apparently unreal and mechanistic traditional approach to accounting in bookkeeping-oriented textbooks. Differences in financial reporting practices within the EC and their evolution from common origins are addressed. Worked examples are used throughout the text, and are intended to clarify complex issues and questions.
