All Around the World: Illustrated Atlas Book

This is an atlas designed specifically for young children, and acts as an introduction to maps and map-reading skills. It contains both globe maps and relief maps, which are printed in simple format, making them easy to read for the young map-reader. The purpose of the globe maps is to show land shapes and position on planet Earth, and to help the children to visualize the Earth as a whole. They also visually reinforce the ratio of land to water. The same land mass is then shown, suitably labelled, on a close-up relief map. There is a short introductory text and colour photographs, highlighting particular aspects of the country or continent. Text boxes throughout the book explain in simple terms important geographical features and concepts, such as deltas, deserts, flood control, climate, deforestation and other features.
