"Amateur Gardening's" Complete Gardening Answers Book

This is a paperback publication by two of the staff of the very popular Gardening Magazine of the Year and Chelsea Gold Medal Winner, Amateur Gardening. Chris Day attended agricultural college and then became sub-editor and gardening journalist on the magazine. Rob Keenan, always a keen horticulturalist, after training in landscape management, became a sub-editor and is now features editor on themagazine. They have combined their years of gardening experience and have successfully produced an extremely easy-to-use reference book which sets out to give answers about problems most commonly occurring in question and answer form. Arranged alphabetically, it deals with everything from alpines, annuals and biennuals, to vegetables, water gardening and weeds, combined with queries on gardening techniques such as propagation, planting and pruning. For example: "Which apple should I grow which is ripe in August and September?" "How can I protect my strawberry plants from frost?" "What roses do you recommend for growing in hanging baskets?" "How do you get rid of white fly?" "When is the best time to take box cuttings?" "How do I go about growing my own garlic?" Particularly useful are the concluding sections, on chemical solutions removing all the mystique by freely giving information on trade names rather than just chemical ingredients, and what they are best used for; and useful addresses of organisations willing to give gardeners a helping hand.
