At Home with the Internet Book

If you're reading this it's likely you don't need a Web guide for beginners. But perhaps you know someone who does--there are still plenty of learner surfers out there who need help to get themselves started. Written for beginners, At Home With the Internet is easy to understand and packed with advice and tips on all the basics such as e-mail and how to make the most of your browser. There may be a glut of books about how to use the Internet, but this one does have its merits. There is useful guidance on search engines and auctions--where increasingly surfers are picking up real bargains. Chatting online is explained and there is advice for parents who are worried about letting their kids loose on the Net. Although it manages to cover a lot and is accessible, At Home with the Internet does miss out a fair bit. There is no guidance on building a Web site, for example, even though there are now plenty of free services on the Net aimed at budding builders. The Internet is also available now through mobile phones and through the TV--but these don't get a mention. The problem with any book about the Internet is that the pace of change is so quick it's impossible to keep completely up-to-date.
