Atlantis, Leon Krier Book
Leon Krier borrowed the mythical name of Atlantis for his project in which he recreated an ideal town on the steep hills of an oceanic island, a town of art and culture, inspired by the most perfect models of Ancient Greece and the finest examples in the foundation of historic cities. Atlantis is rather like a vast academy stretched over five hectares. It was intended to host exhibitions, meetings, performances, amidst all the activities connected with the life of an artists' colony, a gathering of scientists, thinkers, patrons and students living together, working, debating and taking part in the revitalisation of ecological, cultural and aesthetic values, the richest - and most threatened - values of contemporary civilisation. Behind the vast programme were Helga and Hans-Jurgen Muller, and Peter Kloss, who got together in 1985 with the idea of bringing to life a utopian dream. In Atlantis, Krier conceived a traditional town, complex and hierarchical, picturesque and in perfect harmony with the island's natural site.Read More
