Birthplace: Report of the Confidential Enquiry into Facilities Available at the Place of Birth Conducted by the National Birthday Trust Book

The National Birthday Trust Fund for the Extension of Maternity Services was founded in 1928, and for almost sixty years has existed as a charity devoted to improving maternity services in the United Kingdom. This report concerns a survey performed by the National Birthday Trust into facilities available at the place of birth, a subject of some controversy in recent years which has aroused considerable public concern and discussion. Midwives throughout the United Kingdom were asked to complete detailed questionnaires which were then analysed in depth by a working party made up of members of health regulatory bodies and the Royal Colleges. The report of the survey forms the content of this book. This report is unique as an independent, impartial assessment of facilities and services available at the place of birth. It aims to provide a blueprint for the continuing search for safer childbirth, and as such will be welcomed by obstetricians, paediatricians, midwives, general practitioners, and all concerned with the promotion of higher standards of health care delivery.Read More
