Blackstone's Guide to the Criminal Justice Act, 1991: The 1991 Act in the Courts Book

The implementation of the 1991 Act proved to be highly controversial. It was attacked by members of the judiciary and pilloried by the press. The Home Office finally bowed to pressure and key provisions were changed by the Criminal Justice Act of 1993. This edition brings together all those changes, bringing the story of this legislation up to date, and includes: an explanation of the abolition of unit fines and their replacement; the new section 29 on previous convictions and the abolition of the two-offense rule; Home Office national standards on pre-sentence reports, community sentences and supervision of offenders; regulations on reception of children's evidence, deduction of fines from income support; appellate decisions on the new sentencing framework and early release provisions.
