Border Fine Arts Figurines: A Charlton Standard Catalogue Book

2004 marks the 30th year of the founding of Border Fine Arts by John Hammond, MBE who continues to head the company today. Since the issue of the first Charlton Standard Catalogues of Border Fine Arts in 2000 and 2001 there has been considerable and continuing research carried out by the author, Marilyn Sweet in order to completely update the information for this second edition. Marilyn has been an enthusiastic collector of Border Fine Arts for many years and joined the Border Fine Arts Society in its inaugural year. Over the last few years the company has continued to add a wide variety of figurines in all sections: Classic and Studio figurines; limited and unlimited editions; Storybook characters including Beatrix Potter and Winnie-the-Pooh subjects - indeed there have been around 600 new figurines added. Also during this time many of the figurines have been retired and/or editions sold out. The Border Fine Arts range is constantly changing! The second edition also covers for the first time the vast majority of the 400 plus figurines Border fine Arts made exclusively for the North American market, the bulk of which were distributed by Schmid. These include the various Lowell Davis ranges and a number of pieces sculptured by Daniel Parker, Boyd Perry and Don Polland. The secondary market for Border Fine Arts figurines has continued to grow. More and more pieces are being sold via internet auction sites on a daily basis. There has also been an increase in the number of auctions specialising in Border in the UK, as well as very popular "table-top" sales organised. Early pieces, especially those modelled by Border?s original sculptor and joint-founder Victor Hayton are keenly sought and command prices reflecting this. This is also true in the case of limited editions with a low issue number. Prices for the "machinery" figurines seemed to have peaked during 2000/01 and they have now subsequently lowered and levelled off. The full details of all Border Fine Arts figurines have now been amalgamated in one volume ? with over 400 pages and 32 colour plates - a veritable feast for the Border enthusiast! This really is the ultimate resource for anyone deeply or even casually interested in the products of the award winning Scottish company. This guide is the most comprehensive and informative of its kind on the market today. The only guide to offer the collector a clear insight into the happenings of the Border Fine Arts market.Read More
