Breastfeeding should be one of the most enjoyable and rewarding experiences in the world. Sadly, early problems and fear of failure can instead become a cause of stress and worry for new mums, exacerbated by the fact that they are already tired from the birth and from the demands of a new baby. Help is at hand in Tucker's book, which is part of the "Practical Parenting Problem Solvers" series. Tucker, a breastfeeding counsellor, uses her experiences of dealing with new mums to offer support and practical advice on the subject, beginning with late pregnancy and going on to look at issues such as feeding immediately after the birth and returning to work. The book covers common problems met in breastfeeding and also examines why breastfeeding is so good for both mother and child. Also included are narratives from mums who have experienced and overcome these problems. Tucker's support of breastfeeding is wholehearted and she is intolerant of supplementary bottle feeds or those giving up breastfeeding entirely. The author admits that she is unable to cover all aspects of breastfeeding in detail (suggested titles for further reading are included) but that is not the aim here. As with all the books in this series, the information is given in a simple and easy- to-access format.
