Building a World Community: Globalisation and the Common Good Book
In 1995, Denmark hosted the United Nations World Summit for Social Development. That international meeting attended by world leaders, legislators, and representatives of business and labor adopted the Copenhagen Declaration for Social Development, a document committing governments to pursue the eradication of poverty, the promotion of full employment, and the fostering of safe, stable, and just societies. To implement these goals, the government of Denmark organized the Copenhagen Seminars for Social Progress. This book presents a synthesis and interpretation of the work undertaken at these four seminars: A World Economy for the Benefit of All, Humane Markets for Humane Societies, Political Culture and Institutions for a World Community, and Monitoring Social Progress and Social Regress. The book makes a significant contribution to the international dialogue on social progress and will be of interest to economists, planners, aid agencies, and all students of international studies.Read More
