Children of the Future Book
This account attempts to answer the question of what lies ahead for Britain's children. The author looks at the government's proposals to change the education system and their implications, and goes on to suggest an alternative way forward. Outlining the history of British education as well as the current crisis, she attempts to tackle the important questions of why certain children fail and what should be done about it. Drawing on her own experience as well as up-to-date information and research, she argues for quality as well as equality, and for a well-managed, properly-monitored education which will launch children into the future as young Europeans in a technological age. Frances Morrell was deputy leader, then leader of the Inner London Education Authority from 1981-1987. Whilst working there she commissioned independent enquiries into primary, secondary and special schools, reformed the inspectorate, developed a quality of education programme, pioneered the first children's ombudsman and increased the decision-making power of parents. She has also worked as a policy adviser in central government and is co-author of "Manifesto - a radical strategy for Britain's future". The book is intended to be of value to parents, teachers and all concerned with the current debate about the future of our schools.Read More
