City Technology College Book
In 1986 the Conservative government announced that it was to set up a pilot network of twenty new secondary schools to be called City Technology Colleges. These were to be a new type of school, funded jointly by industrial sponsors and the Department of Education and Science, which would select children suited to a technological curriculum. The colleges were perceived by some as an attack on local education authorities and the system of comprehensive education. This book is based on research carried out at the first CTC which opened in Solihull in September 1988. It examines how the college has developed in terms of staff, students, selection procedures, curriculum, facilities, teaching methods and ethos, and describes its relations with the Local Education Authority and other schools, and its place in the wider educational context.Read More
