Civil Engineering: Supervision and Management Book
This practical book covers the methods adopted for the design, construction and management of civil engineering projects. It takes the viewpoint of the project and site engineers, detailing their duties, powers, contractural and health and safety responsibilities. In particular, this third edition has been revised to cover the various forms of contract used in civil engineering - including ICE 6th edition, FIDIC 4th edition, ICE Design and Construct, the ICE's New Engineering Contract, GC/Works/1, IMechE and IChemE - and considers the problems posed by them. Problems of measurement and billing of quantities according to CESMM are described. In addition to this, correct procedures for setting rates for varied work, payment for method-related items, and handling claims for unforseen conditions under ICE Clause 12 are given. Some of the difficulties with delay claims and situations when the contractor submits quotations for undertaking varied work are discussed and advice on handling CVIs from the contractor is given. The book should be useful to undergraduates, and also to the engineer going out on site for the first time, or wishing to understand the procedures, as it indicates the common problems encountered and suggests ways of overcoming them.Read More
