Configuring Windows 2000 Server (Prentice Hall Series on Microsoft Technologies) Book

Written for professional systems administrators, Configuring Windows 2000 Server explains how to install and fine-tune Microsoft's new server operating system. This book, at 438 pages, does not contain the level of detail contained by other books on the subject, but both the writing and the presentation are extremely clear. The book effectively combines screen shots and text to demonstrates concepts such WINS and DNS, displaying tabs on the configuration properties sheets along with the discussions of how to configure the options. A stellar section on hardware and disk management includes overviews, coverage of tools and a well-organised discussion of related options and set-ups.One quibble users may have about the book is that it tends to lack those specialised topics areas that may not apply solely to installation, but may still be helpful to administrators. For example, terminal services elude the book's coverage, and the relation between LDAP and the Active Directory Services is summarised in a single line. This doesn't detract from the book, unless you need a lot of technical depth in these areas.Although not necessarily the only book you will need if you are administering Windows 2000 servers, this book presents the majority of the information you will need, and it does so in a format that is far clearer than most books on operating systems administration. --John Keogh, Amazon.comRead More
