Corris Railway: 16mm Scale Drawings Book

The locomotives, coaches, vans and wagons that ran on the Corris Railway are drawn in detail to the scale of 16mm to 1 foot. The Three Hughes 0-4-0 saddle tank locomotives were acquired by the railway in 1878 and used initially for goods trains. Within a few years, four-wheel coaches resembling street tramcars were used to carry passengers. The uncomfortable motion of these short wheelbase coaches caused them to be replaced by the turn of the century with modern bogie carriages. While the Corris owned a small range of wooden and iron bodied wagons, the majority of the goods stock that ran on the line was privately owned by the quarry proprietors who worked the slate outcrops in the Dulas valley. Each was distinguished by the quarry plate carried on the solebar. The railway owned a single guards van which was part of the formation of every goods train and many passenger services, it worked on the line for over seventy years and was rebuilt a number of times.Read More
