Creating an Excellent School demonstrates that excellent schools are the product of good management, which, in turn, depends on a clear understanding of valid management theory and, even more important, the ability to translate that theory into practice. In the process of this demonstration, we are given profound insights into three crucial areas of leadership: culture, structure, and public accountability. Drawing on areas outside education, such as advertising and business management theory, the authors illustrate new activities in educational administration, without losing sight of the unique culture of each school.
