Crime Zero Book

Imagine a world without crime. This is what Michael Cordy, author of The Miracle Strain has done, and the result is Crime Zero. It is the year 2008 and notorious serial killer Karl Axelman awaits execution. But, unknown to him, he is a guinea pig in a genetic modification program that aims to change mankind for ever. FBI Director Madeline Naylor, in cahoots with leading biotech entrepreneur Alice Prince, and with the unwitting help of virologist Kathy Kerr, has engineered the means to make those previously without conscience feel guilt. However, this is only the first step into a utopian dream that has a darker, more horrifying side, and it is up to FBI manhunter Luke Decker, in tandem with old flame Kathy, to avert impending catastrophe. Extrapolating current genetic research to the max--and then way beyond--this thriller raises issues that, while intriguing, remain subservient to the plot, whose characters remain firmly in the second dimension. Cordy asks how behaviour is affected by the struggle between nature and nurture; whether the ends justify the means and the merits of patriarchy over matriarchy. Such reservations aside Crime Zero is an exciting, well-crafted page-turner with an intriguing premise and its fair share of pulse- quickening moments. --Jonathan CrawfordRead More
