An enjoyable and often poignant novel about the trials and tribulations of growing up and the pain of having a crush on the lead singer of a boy band. The writer has successfully got under the skin of a teenage girl, revealing typical female traits--the bedroom completely covered in posters of your icon, your family refusing to understand your passion, being sure that if only fate would bring you together then he would realise that you are the one. Luckily for Ally Morgan fate does intervene--"Five Nine" are playing the last gig of their tour on her birthday and she and her best friend have tickets. Unfortunately, arch rival Marienne Forrester and her crony have won a backstage pass. Ally's despair turns to joy, though, when she discovers that the band are staying at the same hotel. By fair means or foul she will get to meet her idol. When she finally does meet him it is very different from her dreams. Alex Shearer (married with two children) has brilliantly captured that feeling of unrequited love of a pop star which almost every teenage girl must have experienced at one time or another.
