Down to Earth: Mediumship for Sceptics Book

Book Description Down to Earth is mediumship for sceptics, presented by sceptics. It could change the way you look at death. It could also change the way you look at life. "Death is not the end of everything" says leading medium Sue Brotherton. "We don't just shuffle off and disappear." Proving just that has been her job for over thirty years. So what happens when her life's work is taken apart by psychiatrist Dr Teresa Parrott? The difference between working with the unconscious mind and the the spirit world is examined closely, the myths of mediumship are dispelled, the evidencefor life after death is finely measured. From the Author Foreword by Teresa Parrott I studied Medicine at Southampton University. As a post-graduate, I trained in Psychiatry, including a course in individual psychodynamic psychotherapy, and worked as a psychiatrist for five years, becoming a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 1992. Sue Brotherton and I first met in the South of Spain, when I attended one of her workshops on Mediumship and Psychic Awareness. It was February 1998; a pivotal moment in my life. Five years previously, when I gave up my career in psychiatry, I had moved to Spain. Since then, in a vague kind of way, I had been searching for something. I had just started writing, which had been a secret dream since childhood, but it was all new to me, and there was a lot to learn. In a sense I was waiting to find my next step. When I went to the workshop, I had no idea what to expect. I?d never spoken to Sue, and I?d never seen a medium working before. In fact I was way out of my comfort zone. Right at the start, I volunteered to go up in front of the group, and she started saying what she sensed from my energy field and unconscious mind. In other words, she started telling me what I thought about myself. She had never met me before. Within moments, though, she sensed a feeling of fear, loneliness and inadequacy. She told me that I felt constricted, that my tendency to be passive rather than saying what I felt lead to disproportionate tantrums. She said that I was shy and felt quite vulnerable; I found it hard to open up to people till I trusted them, and I had difficulty expressing my emotions. There were parts of myself that I recognized were holding me back, which I needed to let go, in order to free myself. Sue said that there was a sensitive, compassionate part of me that knew where I was heading, that had strength, power and a capacity for healing and teaching. She also told me (still at this first meeting) that I needed to keep working on myself in order to free the feminine, creative, intuitive side of me, so that it could aid the rational, logical, thinking part. Only then would I accept that, within me, I already had everything that I needed. She told me that I would, finally, get where I wanted to be, and that when I did, it would surpass my wildest dreams. I was amazed. Within minutes of meeting me, this woman had sensed what it had taken me, a professional psychiatrist, years of self-discovery to learn. Over the next two days, seeing Sue talk to different people, listening to her views about life and death, and seeing the joy that she felt (and brought to others) when working with spirit, I was convinced that she was a truly kind, sensitive and down to earth person ? and an extraordinary medium. I didn?t see her again till five years later, when we decided to write this book. Sue has been acknowledged for years as one of the top mediums in the UK. She has been working with mediumship for over thirty years, and has given demonstrations and workshops on mediumship, dreams and spiritual/self-growth in many different countries. She has tutored at the Arthur Findlay College for Psychic Studies, and was Chairman of Spiritualist Aid, the charity fund-raising arm of the Spiritualists? National Union. She is a dream-worker and trained counsellor, and has studied transpersonal psychology. She has explored personal and archetypal symbol in great depth, culminating in the development of a unique technique for helping clients to integrate lost aspects of their psyche. This book is intended for all those who are interested in finding out more about what will happen to them after death, and who are searching for ways of discovering more about who they truly are in life. Whether mediums or spiritualists - or sceptics. We all come from different starting points. We interpret ourselves and our lives in the light of our unique experiences, backgrounds, and beliefs. So we will all have different questions. This book aims to answer ? well at least some of them.Read More
