The book is divided into twelve themed sections to help learners in their specific areas of interest. Each themed section of the book contains either three or four spreads showing the failings common amongst beginners - the typical mistakes are shown on the left-hand page with annotations by the author highlighting what the problem areas are. On the facing page the author shows how a vivid depiction can be achieved, looking at each component and annotating it for guidance. After the problem-and-solution pages the artist shows how the drawing techniques covered can be combined to produce a complete picture which integrates all the lessons learnt.
