Dreamweaver 4 Hands On Training lives up to its name, offering over a hundred step-by-step exercises that teach how to author Web pages with Macromedia's market-leading design tool. Bundled with the book is a CD containing all the files needed to complete the exercises, along with 16 Quicktime movies that demonstrate particular techniques. Both Macintosh and Windows users are catered for, with clear notes whenever something is slightly different on a particular platform. The book is great for beginners, who will soon achieve high quality results. The authors start at the very beginning, with short background chapters on HTML and on the Dreamweaver interface. The first exercise shows how to define a new Dreamweaver Web site and from there it's hands on training all the way. You learn the basics of including text and images in a page, how to make hyperlinks, using different fonts and styles and laying out tables. Other chapters cover frames, rollover effects where an image changes as you move the mouse over it, use of Cascading Style Sheets for advanced formatting, interactive forms, and extending Dreamweaver's features with Behaviours. The final chapters tackle Dynamic HTML, reusing content with templates and libraries and how to get your files onto a Web server. Although it covers the same ground as several other Dreamweaver titles, Hands On Training is particularly well designed, with an uncluttered page layout, carefully chosen screenshots with annotations and highlights and panelled notes and tips.
