The book provides the subject matter of first year university course in mechanics for students of physics and related subjects, e.g. engineering and "physics with . . . " course. It would be used as well as the basis for an `A'- level course in applied mathematics. It contains the principles introduced in an empirical way mixed in with examples with solutions and with exercises for which the solutions are given.
