Everyone in the Bible Book

The purpose of this volume is to provide Bible readers with a concise, accurate, and readable biographical account of every person named in the Bible. Obviously, many of these persons are merely "names" on a list. There is little that can be said about those who are merely "names," apart from identifying their tribe or family (if given in the Bible) and mentioning the event in biblical history involving those "names."... There are many persons of the same name in the Bible. There is considerable confusion about the identity of many of these, especially those who happen to live at the same time. In spite of careful detective work, sometimes we can only tentatively identify certain persons. Some of the identifications listed in this book are based on educated guesses... The situation is further complicated by the fact that many persons were known by two names... In such cases, the writer has try to give cross-references, so that one biographical paragraph will suffice for both names... In general, the writer has used the Revised Standard Version of the Bible in compiling his names, except in the cases of names which are most commonly known in English in the forms given in earlier translations.
