This is a delightful collection of stories full of magic and typically zany Terry Jones inventiveness--silly King Rupert who poured lemonade down his trousers, or the selfish little Corn Dolly who insinuates herself into the farmer's favourite chair. Of course there's a line-up of awesome monsters, one with a thousand teeth, and an innocent lyricism in stories such as Why Birds Sing in the Morning. They all have endings that make young listeners think: In The Glass Cupboard robbers take endless gold out of the fragile cupboard until finally they break it into a million pieces and are killed by the mountain of gold. "If only they had put something back, they would be alive today," muses the King. Although it was originally recorded in 1982, this audio book was released for the first time in August 2000.
