The author shows how he later adapted the voice, style and subject of his essays and political journalism for this purpose. Orwell's ability to convey a moral and political perspective is examined as a response to the atmosphere and the political events of the period. The book discusses his desire to become a novelist and the extent to which he was influenced by his literary models.
