German for Starters is a lively introduction to German language and culture, aimed at adults studying either in classes or independently. The course uses a communicative approach, and will enable students starting from scratch to reach a level of competence which will allow them to cope with a variety of everyday situations in German-speaking countries. With this aim in mind, much of the written and aural material is taken from authentic German sources and the teaching of communication skills is underpinned by a clear and systematic presentation of grammar. The course comprises a student's book, a teacher's book and four cassettes. The cassettes feature both scripted and unscripted recordings, exercises and some recorded solutions, as well as a number of additional listening tasks for self-study. For the benefit of the independent learner, complete tapescripts are included in the student's book.
