Hallowe'en (Celebrations) Book
This book is part of the "Celebrations" series, an easy-reading edition of the "Festivals" series. It describes the origins and traditions that have developed around this festival and explains why we celebrate Halloween the way we do. Some of the traditions associated with Halloween have their origins in pagan times, in the beliefs of Celts and Saxons. From them we have taken the idea that supernatural beings - ghosts, spirits and witches - are supposed to be out and about at Halloween. Christianity turned the festival into a religious event, but pagan traditions still survive, so that today Halloween is celebrated as a time for fun and games, apple ducking, mischief and trick-or-treat fun. Hilary Lee-Corbin has been a language consultant for several years and is now doing part-time language development work with primary school children.Read More
