Happiness? A Simple Guide to a Contented Life Book
This book is a manual on how to achieve happiness based on my own personal observations and experiences. I start off by discussing the concept of happiness and investigate the results of a recent survey on human happiness across the world. In the next chapter I discuss happiness with reference to the difference between humans and other animals. I investigate what is special about humans and why animals probably don t sense a happiness gap. In the following chapter I address areas from biology and psychology that relate to happiness, and end with some philosophical questions. I then discuss what seems at a first glace to be only vaguely related to the subject: addiction. But, I show that an understanding of addiction leads to a fuller understanding of ourselves and how we tick. I then spend a fair bit of time addressing what are called spiritual matters. Physical health and fitness are not essential to being content but they seriously help and form the subject matter for an entire chapter. In the penultimate chapter I put the questions and suggestions in the book into a global perspective and look at a few future scenarios for mankind. Lastly, I present a range of suggestions for implementing the ideas in the book my sort of guide to happiness . I do not claim to be an expert on happiness from an academic point of view and I do not claim that my methods will work for everyone. But they worked for me and I think it is only fair that I share them. My main suggestions in the final chapter are based around ancient spiritual practices, but I have addressed them from a modern, no-nonsense perspective. They worked then, so why not give them a go now? I sincerely hope that once folk have finished the book, and maybe taken on board some of the suggestions, they can find some lasting peace and happiness.Read More
