Health and Safety legislation applies to all places of work and to all employees. The nursing applications arise from the dependance of the patient or client who is cared for in an environment that is unusual and sometimes potentially hazardous as it includes medical and nursing procedures. Legislation in the United Kingdom is now extended by the European Community Directives. The law has direct implications for nursing practice. Quality of care, which includes the avoidance of accidents involving both patient and nurse, is the objective of this book. The author discusses guidelines and legislation and their relationship to care and health, giving examples of the nurse's role in different clinical situations.
