Healthy Living (Canadian Edition) Book
Want to stop smoking? Worried about the safety of barbecued food? Do we need fluoride in our water supply? These are just some of the health-conscious issues up for discussion by the outlandish Dr Andrew Weil. This is my preferred book in the "Ask Dr Weil" series, in which Weil's common sense is most apparent. Weil addresses everyday concerns such as radiation from computers or microwaves, the effects of sun exposure and dangers associated with steroids. He shrugs off trendy claims that enemas or colonic irrigation (used to wash out the bowel) could benefit healthy individuals--he says that they are popular because people actually enjoy using them and may even become addicted to them! Information is given on new fat substitute Olestra, explaining exactly what it is and considering the possible benefits and side effects. Although hailed by the dieting industry as the perfect alternative to fat, Dr Weil advises people to restrict their consumption until more is know about the product. The short, straight-to-the-point answers make for light reading and offer Weil chance to cover more points of interest--and get his message across at the same time. The book certainly gives you plenty of food for thought about the way we eat and live, and may whet your appetite to read more books in this series. --Carole ButterworthRead More
