Examining contemporary perceptions of the Holocaust, this book questions why the "Shoah business" is such big business at the end of the twentieth century. From a position of effecive silence in the post-war world, the author points to the emergence of a Holocaust myth from the 1960s onwards which sought to give meaning to this traumatic past. Numerous versions of this myth were created in Europe, Israel and the United Sates, from "Anne Frank's Diary", the Eichmann trial, "Schindler's List", to the memorials at Auschwitz and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
