Infertility: Women Speak Out About Their Experiences of Reproductive Medicine Book
In this book, edited by a founder member of the Feminist International Network of Resistance to Reproductive and Genetic Engineering, women discuss the problems including the pain and stigma of infertility, drug and hormone injections, the trauma of the test-tube baby method (IVF), damage caused by experimental medicine and surgery and exploitation as "surrogate" mothers. They suggest alternative strategies for people with infertility problems and assert that we need to resist the false promise of reproductive technologies for the good of women in general. Their experiences illustrate disturbing evidence of medical malpractice and invasive technologies which are seen to violate women's bodies and take a heavy toll on their lives. The author is co-editor of "Test-Tube Women - What Future for Motherhood?" and "Man-Made Women". In 1986 she was awarded the Georgina Sweet Fellowship to research the experiences of women who drop out of test-tube baby programmes in Australia. She is currently researching on new reproductive technologies and genetic engineering.Read More
