Inside Stories: Book. 4 (Inside Stories Series): Bk. 4 Book
This four-book series is a departure from the traditional form of short story anthology. It assists the student to explore the nature of story and narrative, and the acts of reading and critical response. The series contents extend beyond the usual range of the short story anthology to include myths, urban legends, jokes, mini-sagas, tall stories and a wide variety of different genres. The activities related to the text are equally wide-ranging and include: prediction, comparison of stories with common roots, deconstruction of the narrative structure and techniques, and stylistic commentary. The suggestions for the student's own work aim to help sharpen their awareness of what stories are and how they operate: such work offers opportunities for creative and critical responses, for writing, interviewing, tape recording and performance. Both the texts and the tasks vary coniderably in difficulty and complexity, so that the books cater for a very wide range of readers. Book 4 of the series is geared to the needs of GCSE classes. It enables students to produce work which is appropriate to the oral component of their GCSE and written assignments which will fulfill the criteria for several different categories, for example, creative work, response to text, and writing in a range of styles suitable for different purposes. There is scope for full-length assignments and also for a collection of short pieces which, together, will count as one assignment.Read More
