Introductory Digital Design: A Programmable Approach (Macmillan new electronics series) Book

This text adopts an integrated approach to hardware and software for the teaching of digital electronics. The aim of the book is to provide a grounding in the basic issues of combinational and squential logic design. Throughout, the emphasis is on describing the merits of modern and programmable digital design, using detailed case studies to show the interrelationship between the different design techniques that may be adopted. In the design examples described and examined, the author uses the PALASM language to specify how programmable array logic devices should operate. After a short introductory chapter, the book begins with a study of combinational logic, describing how basic logic circuits can be designed to implement digital functions. This is followed by a discussion of electronic logic circuits and their associated technologies. The discussion of sequential system design also shows the role of software in formulating the description of digital circuits. A core chapter is devoted to programmable logic implementation; the major programmable technologies are surveyed and the author focuses on programmable array logic (PAL), as a means for digital circuit implementation. Several design examples are included.Read More
