Kylie: Naked Book

The authors of Kylie Naked assure us in their introduction that there wasn’t time to obtain Kylie’s co-operation with this exploration of her life and career; a bit unfortunate since her involvement may have resulted in something more than the bog-standard showbiz biography that we have ended up with. Kylie’s career from TV soap queen as the lovable Charlene in Neighbours to international pop star is covered in a rather routine fashion and features none of the surprises which are surely half the point of celebrity books like this. The trouble is that there is no controversy in Kylie’s life that we don’t already know about and that which we do is dredged up again as old news and dressed in rather unnecessary rumour and speculation (do we really need to know that Michael Hutchence may have allegedly been in the middle of a bizarre sexual act when he died?) To their credit, the authors don’t try and shatter her girl-next-door image and her career is covered in almost bang up-to-date detail, including an extra chapter to take account of her recent success with "Can’t Get You Out of My Head" and her fantastic performance at the 2002 Brits Awards. Hopefully the Princess of Pop will find time one day to pen her autobiography, but until then Kylie: Naked is as thorough and an enjoyable account of her life as you could possibly want.--Jonathan WeirRead More
