Labour Pain: Discover the Secrets of an Easier Labour, a Comprehensive Guide to the Best Ways to Alleviate Labour Pain Book
Labour Pain, despite its title, is not just about the pain of labour but also presents a very thorough guide to all aspects of labour and gives the reader a very clear insight into what is likely to happen when the inevitable time arrives. The book features several true-life birth stories from a varied cross-section of women. The first story is most alarming, but the inclusion of such real-life stories adds a certain personal element to the book; the birth stories are meant to illustrate each aspect covered by the book, although some links are a little tenuous. The book covers everything to do with the process of labour and the stages that you will go through before and after the birth both physiologically and psychologically--how it starts and progresses, the warning signs--very handy as probably the most frequently asked question of yourself is: "how will I know I am in labour?"--the birth itself and the aftermath. Your birth options are also looked at in detail, such as the type of birth you can have--caesarean section, induction--and tips for self-induction!--home birth; so are the actual preparations for labour. Everything from what to pack for hospital and positions for labour to your mental state are discussed in detail, giving you a thorough grounding in your personal choices. The book's focuses on labour pain itself--the fear of it, the psychology of pain, your pain relief options such as drugs, (alternative medicine options are given a lot of attention as well as conventional methods) support of a birth partner, psychological exercises to combat the pain and so on. In fact every aspect of pain relief is examined so that you are left feeling particularly positive about, and well prepared for, the whole experience. Although a little technical in places and perhaps a lot to digest in one go, the book provides an excellent grounding to labour, pain and everything about this wonderful but often scary experience. --Helen Humphrey, Editor of UKParents.co.uk.Read More
