Legal Ethics: Text and Materials (Law in Context) Book

This book enables students to approach a number of ethical issues, including: recognizing the ethical discretion afforded to lawyers by rules of law and rules of professional conduct; evaluating how that discretion might be exercised so as to make the practice of the law ethically satisfying to the individual practitioner; and understanding the significance for the ethical practice of law at the end of the century.

The rules offer considerable scope for behaviour that might benefit the client, but which are difficult to defend ethically. This critical approach is tempered by the recognition that the would-be practitioner faces a number of contrary pressures (law firm and professional culture) and that the rules of professional conduct are often of little assistance.
