Locomotives of Sir Nigel Gresley Book

Sir Nigel Gresley, Chief Mechanical Engineer of the London and North Eastern Railway from 1923 until his death in 1941, was responsible for the locomotives "Mallard" and "Flying Scotsman". This book was first published in 1945 and was based on magazine articles the proofs of which Gresley himself had read and approved. Gresley was honoured in 1937 by having his 100th "Pacific"-type locomotive named after him. This locomotive is now in preservation and undergoing necessary boiler repairs. The book has been revised and updated to include the end of steam on British Rail and preservation of locomotives.Read More
