MICHAEL BROADBENT''S POCKET VINTAGE WINE COMPANION: Over Fifty Years of Tasting Over Three Centuries of Wine Book
Michael Broadbent's Pocket Vintage Wine Companion is the sort of book that needs absolutely no introduction, but let us at least attempt the task. Broadbent, himself, of course is a veritable institution in the world of wine, and the library of books he has written on the subject are de rigueur for any wine connoisseur. 2002 marked his 50 years in the wine trade, and Broadbent celebrated that fact with the appearance of Vintage Wine, which was in fact his first major book for more than 10 years. Utilising the best elements of his earlier work, and concentrating on the world's classic wine regions, that book instantly became a definitive wine reference book as well as a celebration of the grape by a man who has devoted his life to it. The Pocket Vintage Wine Companion is more than an adjunct to the earlier book; what we have here in a compact, accessible format are Broadbent's tasting notes that presents for the reader his nonpareil expertise in the field, whether the wine aficionado is buying at auction, travelling or even eating out (although discretion might be advised went pulling the pocket size book out at an haute cuisine restaurant!). If your taste is for Burgundy, Bordeaux or Sauterne, here's the best possible way to discover the finest in the wine field, with individual entries graded for quality, and perfectly encapsulated in a series of essays. But beware -- the book itself may be inexpensive, but you just might end up spending a great deal of money on the wines that Michael Broadbent eulogises. --Barry Forshaw.Read More
