Microsoft SQL Server 7 for Dummies Book

For those of us developing solutions for Microsoft platforms it soon becomes obvious that using Access as the database of choice is not a viable option. The most obvious solution comes with SQL Server, currently up to version seven. In this latest ... for Dummies extravaganza, Anthony Mann deconstructs the whole process of installation, setup and operation of a SQL 7 system drawing on the traditional tools of the Dummy arsenal to produce a surefire hit with those looking to upscale their current installations. It goes without saying that the text, although a little wordy, does an excellent job of getting the message across and the ever present icon tips are great reference for those flicking quickly through to find some piece of forgotten, yet vitally important, information. Covering topics including database design, the creation of functional interfaces, stored procedures and using SQL 7 for Web-based access, the book is a great introduction to what can be a very technical subject. At times it all gets a little too American, but if you ignore the cultural slant (and the humourless cartoons) what's left is a very competent and helpful manual which is good for serious hardcore reading or just skipping through to find the bits that suit individual circumstances.Read More
