NAT2 Polymorphisms in Malays, Chinese and Indians in Malaysia: NAT2 pharmacogenetics Book

NAT2 is polymorphic. It gives rise to acetylator status that may influence pharmacotherapy and carcinogenesis. The polymorphisms was studied in Malaysia before using methods that were not specific. We reinvestigated NAT2 polymorphisms in Malaysia using more specific methods. Correlation between NAT2 genotypes and isoniazid metabolic ratio was of moderate significance. Our results differed from the previous Malaysian study in terms of allele frequencies, but similar ethnic differences were observed. Our data provides a useful baseline of NAT2 polymorphisms in Malaysia that can help planning of further studies of the polymorphisms in Malaysia especially as they relate to pharmacotherapy and environmentally induced cancers.
