This story is apparently based on a popular folk tale told across the Indian subcontinent, but it does also have some similarities with our own well-known fairy-tale, Little Red Riding Hood. A frail old lady decides to visit her granddaughter who lives on the other side of the forest. However, the journey is fraught with trouble as various animals appear and threaten to eat her, but the old lady manages to outwit them all with a very clever piece of deception.Jessica Souhami's illustrative style is really quite unusual; the images are very simple, but at the same time are very expressive. Her style of artwork has apparently been influenced by her experience of running her own puppet company.
