Novell's NDS Developer's Guide is a no-nonsense compendium of the various techniques for programming for Novell Directory Services (NDS)--the company's cornerstone architecture for distributed network resource management. The book is authored by several Novell engineers and addresses both high-level and low-level programming techniques. It opens with a brief introduction to NDS that lays out the importance of directory services from a developer's perspective. While coders somewhat familiar with the Novell architecture will appreciate this chapter's brevity, it lacks the examples necessary for the totally uninitiated. The remainder of the first part of the book covers high-level access to NDS through ActiveX controls, Delphi, JavaBeans, open database connectivity (ODBC), and Web scripting. These sections illustrate how to exploit NDS from popular rapid application development and work with the Novell ODBC Driver for NDS to query NDS resources using SQL.
