Photoshop Shop Manual: Tools and Techniques Book
The Photoshop 6 Shop Manual is a nuts and bolts guide to Photoshop operation for design and print professionals. It's rather austere looking--the black laminated cover with embossed gold tooling and dense text make for a rather forbidding-looking tome. This is deliberate. As O'Quinn himself says "This book contains no tutorials. It doesn't hold your hand or strive to entertain you with witty asides". So if you're looking for an entertaining browse forget it; but if you're a time-pressed professional who wants to know how to batch process, what the format options in the JPEG options dialogue do, or any of the other questions that routinely crop up during an average day's work, this could be the fastest route to the answer. The front section of the book is a reference to the entire Photoshop interface. Before outlining the specific function of each item, sections on mistakes to avoid and issues to consider provide answer s to the most commonly experienced problems. The remaining third of the book is devoted to 12 append ices covering techniques including batch processing, halftone and lineart editing, colour adjusting and retouching, with the emphasis on those tools and techniques most likely to be of use to prepress and graphics professionals. While it won't take your breath away with it's stunning design, and may send you to sleep if you try to read an entire chapter in one go, this is the book you'll turn to when your duotones won't separate properly and the courier is waiting in reception. --Ken McMahon Read More
