The aim of this book is to ensure that students know the shorthand outlines for the 700 most common words in the English language and can read and write them without hesitation. These words, together with their derivatives, form approximately 80 per cent of all general written material. The book is divided into 12 sections, each on a different theme, so that the material can be covered at evening classes in one term, or in a correspondingly shorter period in full-time education.
