PORTOBELLO: One is the starting point for a three-book series describing civil, political, racial unrest in the Caribbean's Turks & Caicos Islands. The time line is 1989-1992, a period when hundreds of millions of US dollars flooded the British administered colony as real estate values skyrocketed from $50,000 for two acres on Grace Bay (1980) to numbers approaching $50,000 per-running-front-foot on the same beach (the late 90s). This 'story' is pure fiction; the characters are equally-pure 'TCI' - natives and ex-pat. This was an era when huge sums of money transferred to the colony's 'off-shore' banks quickly grew larger under the influence of a lenient 'do not ask - do not tell' banking system.
