Prophets of the Apocalypse: The Bible's Ultimate Revelations for the End of Time Book
Books about the Apocalypse tend to induce dread--not because of the grim visions of reapers and horsemen they summon, but because they are so often, quite simply, dreadful. You can¹t, however, always judge a book by its lurid cover, and this is an example. For Prophets of the Apocalypse is, just like the puzzling knot of Biblical prophecy it seeks to help unravel, unpredictably inspirational. Haggith has assembled every Biblical passage that refers directly or otherwise to the so-called end times. He sets them in their Biblical and historical context (showing how many "last days" prophecies have already come to pass), and proceeds to offer crucial insight into how original readers of these ancient texts might have used them. Apocalyptic was written for a reason--its authors were concerned less with predicting the end of the world, and more with "comforting the persecuted people of God in any age". In challenging our take on linear time (in particular), Haggith shows how we have far more to gain from Biblical inspiration than if we use it, as we have tended to, simply as a horoscope. That said, he does not dismiss the Bible's potential to speak today, and to chart the shape of things to come. Quite the contrary, in fact: "No other book sweeps through the epochs of human history with such poetry, brutality, embrace of humanity, and glorious promise as this ancient library of Hebrew and Greek manuscripts." Haggith is passionate, and it's catching. If apocalyptic is, as he suggests, "a bridge between the spiritual, eternal realm and the physical, temporal world", let this book lead you there. It's a revelation. --Brian DraperRead More
