Rainbows Through the Rain: An Anthology of Hope Book

You may know of Fiona Castle, widow of the entertainer Roy Castle who died some years ago after a long battle with lung cancer. You may not know of the deep Christian faith which sustained her through her grief and sorrow. Rainbows Through the Rain is a collection of the poems, thoughts and verses which Fiona Castle turned to in order to keep alive, in her words, "a thankful rather than [a] despairing heart". Simply organised into four sections (Love, Light, Joy, The Cross), the range of authors and poets included in the anthology is remarkably wide, from W.H. Auden and John Donne to Joyce Grenfell and Oscar Hammerstein. As you might expect in a book facing up to the shock and pain of bereavement, the Old Testament Psalms are much in evidence, as are extracts from the Gospels, the book of Proverbs and the prophet Isaiah. Anyone seeking solace during times of emotional distress will surely find something to comfort them in the pages of this book. It would make an excellent gift for a grieving friend or relative, containing not only famous passages--Shakespeare's "All the world's a stage" speech, and "There is a time for everything" from Ecclesiastes--but many hidden delights also, like this from Ulrich Shaeffer: And slowly it dawns on mebeing lonely is: turning to youdeath is: a deep and joyous lifedarkness is: finally seeing your lightand love is: being born over and over again. --Anthony WilsonRead More
