Revisiting Divisions of Labour: The Impacts and Legacies of a Modern Sociological Classic Book

Revisiting Division of Labour is a radically revised second edition of the book Divisions of Labour by Ray Pahl combining the strengths of a new edition with those of a 'reader' on a key author's work (e.g. The Peter Townsend Reader Policy Press 2010). My hpe is that this might provide a model for further reissued classics. The model aims to provide a showcase of a discipline at its best and a platform for discussion of how and why sociological research can have deep and lasting impact. One third of the volume will be devoted to selected excerpts from the book and the remaining two thirds comprise contributions by researchers working in the field today which place Divisions of Labour in context examine what was so innovative and important about it and look at its on-going significance for debates in fields including the sociology of work and the sociology of community.Read More
